There are a wide variety of options when you are choosing a new steel door. There are many aesthetic options, which can dramatically improve the appearance of your house which do not increase the cost of a new door. For example, long panel choices are not uncommon, shown to the left, and are a matter of preference not cost. There are also many colors available, which not only can be matched to shutters or entrances, but also do not require painting for a lifetime. The vinyl trim that we install with the door will also match this color. There are also many window choices which can also make your house stand out. Mechanically there are a few simple things which can help you to distinguish from a low quality door to a strong reliable door. The gauge of steel used in the construction of the door is the primary. The lower the number, the thicker the steel; for example, 24 gauge is much stronger than 28 gauge. If the headroom above the door (room from the top of the door to the closest point of contact above) allows, helical torsion springs are much safer than the standard extension springs. They twist a long steel shaft rather than stretch along the tracks. The lift cables tie into the shaft via a cable drum, which keeps the door working exactly level at all times. Another primary mechanical concern would be to ensure that any new door you are looking to purchase has all steel hinges and rollers. These are basically the life of the door; plastic parts are never a good thing on any garage door or opener. They simply are not strong enough to hold up to the demands of a garage door. These are the types of details we can explain, to ensure that you are very informed about all of your options prior to purchasing a new garage door. This way you will feel satisfied that you have made the best choice of durability, aesthetics, and overall value for your hard earned dollars.

There are a wide variety of options when you are choosing a new custom wood door. They vary dramatically throughout all of the different styles and qualities. There are many doors which can be obtained in both a paint grade as well as a stain grade which are priced to suit any budget amount. Without question, wood doors add character and have more detail and style than the regular steel door. There are an infinite amount of choices available, and basically if you can draw it, it can be manufactured in a timely manner.
Wood doors are basically produced in a couple of different manors. First would be a rail and style door where the outside frame is shown on the exterior of the doors and retains a determined amount of raised panels which are carved from a variety of different materials. The second primary type of construction is a sandwich constructed door with applied facing. This is a significantly stronger layout.
The primary wood frame is insulated then sheeted both inside and out with luaun plywood. All aesthetical choices are then applied to this face, and windows are cut into place. A door constructed in this way typically has a thickness around 2 1/2 to 3 inches. Wood species are also an important factor in choosing a door. These can vary dramatically and greatly increase or decrease the life of a door depending on maintenance.
The primary line of wood doors we prefer to sell are Spanish Red Cedar, which has a grain density so tight that it is impervious to water. Basically, the door would remain bright and vibrant in appearance for years without any preparation work at all. These are all the types of options and details we would be happy to tell you about, and hopefully take the headache out of choosing a new wood door.
